What is a Verified Certificate?
A verified certificate links leaner performance with an online identity verification system, designed and developed to support learners who are seeking formal recognition for their achievements on a MOOC platform. Coursera and edX utilize identity verification for their paid course certificates.
How does identity verification work?
Verification combines two verification methods – webcam photography and keystroke biometrics – to link a learner’s online profile and assignment submissions to their real-world identity. The learner’s identity is established at registration via clear webcam photos of themselves and an approved identification document. A verified certificate includes both the learning platform’s and Penn’s logos and in some cases is shareable via URL.
