The MOOC Teaching Assistant (TA) is a student hired to help run the course. The Teaching Assistant may help with the development of the course, including conceiving the course, creating assessments and videos.
The Teaching Assistant position for this course requires assisting the Professor in the preparation, ongoing delivery and student support activities of the open online course. All contributions must be of the highest quality and attention to detail since the site is an active website available to the world and is a representation of Penn.

Process for Hiring your Teaching Assistant
When you identify a Teaching Assistant, please alert Online Learning who will create an offer letter for your review and approval. Online Learning will also provided the necessary information to your school’s business or payroll administrator.
For the first run, you may have either a Lead Teaching Assistant or a Lead Teaching Assistant plus a Teaching Assistant.
If the course is Provost-funded, the stipends are split between the school and the Provost’s office. The Teaching Assistant is owned by the department and is paid by the department (the Provost’s office will reimburse half during the course – please note the Teaching Assistant fees from the Provost office are not reimbursed prior to the course start date).
Please contact the Online Learning team for current stipend information.
MOOC platform training workshops for both TAs and MOOC instructors are held bi-monthly in Van Pelt Library. Platform training takes about two hours and requires two hours of advanced preparation (securing necessary log-ins and completing a preliminary online course authoring training course). Please contact Megan Carr for more details and to reserve your spot.
